Donatoni Jet625 forms key part of future planning at R&A Fabrications

Hampshire-based stone fabricator R&A Fabrications Ltd has invested in a Donatoni Jet625

Founded and run by Rona Tompkins in 2013, R&A Fabrications serves a combination of homeowners, kitchen studios, builders and developers across the Hampshire, Dorset and Wiltshire region. Fast forward 10 years and Rona has grown the business to the point where R&A are the only local business that specialises in fabricating granite, quartz, Corian and timber under the same roof.

R&A have successfully built a reputation for their workmanship and attention to detail and this is evident in the extra finishing touches they provide such as under-polishing all the front edges, and the excellent feedback received from their customers on their high quality service.

In 2023, as part of her plans for the future of the business, Rona took the step of investing in a Donatoni Jet625. Having first been told about Donatoni by Salve Caruso, managing director of Stone Automation, and then seen first-hand how efficient the Donatoni Jet was at other stone fabricators, Rona knew that this was the next investment the business had to make to continue its growth.

The Donatoni Jet has replaced the GMM Brio we bought in 2016 and it was a big investment for us,” said Rona. “The service has been excellent, and they get back to us very quickly with answers to any questions we have,” she went on to say about the service received from Donatoni and Stone Automation servicing teams since installation.

On a typical day, the workshop is mainly cutting quartz kitchen worktops for kitchen design studios and clients. Since its installation, their Donatoni Jet625 has helped improve the efficiency of the workshop massively. The sawyers at R&A find the Donatoni and its software easy to use and the team are finding that cutting curved pieces for breakfast bars and kitchen islands much easier.

Rona’s varied career from finance through kitchen design to stone fabrication has given her a unique approach to the business and an ability to remain focused on the bigger picture for R&A Fabrications and her team.

In addition to buying the first Donatoni for R&A, as part of her future planning Rona took the decision to change the company to become an employee owned business. She explains “We have been trading for 10 years and in another 10 years I will be past retirement age. I want the business to survive that transition and for all the staff who have been with me over the years to remain employed and benefit from their hard work rather than sell the business.”

Thanks to Rona’s vision, R&A Fabrications is set up for the future with a fully committed team that can rely on the support of Stone Automation and Donatoni at all times. When asked what advice she had for other stone fabrication businesses that would like to improve their efficiency and replicate the growth at R&A Fabrications, she replied without hesitation “Buy a Donatoni saw!”
